Communications / PR Consultant

Hello!

This is Paul, Agent’s CEO.

Firstly, thank you so much for taking the time to have a look at this exciting opportunity to work with us at Agent.

Like any big decisions in life, it’s important to have all the information at hand to help make sure the job choice you make is the right one. I’ve put together some essential ‘must-knows’ about us. It goes without saying that I could go on all day here – I promise I won’t. However, if you have any questions, please do give us a call, email, DM or drop by and have a word with one of the team about anything you’d like to know.

We established Agent back in 2006 – it feels like yesterday and what a ride it’s been. It was our 18th birthday this year and the future has never looked brighter for us.

We’re a full-service marketing agency. In a nutshell, this means that we deliver a fully integrated offering for our clients – from start to finish. Our clients are based all over the UK, across a whole range of different sectors and industries; clean growth, tech for good, public sector, connectivity. We’re in business for good and they are too. We help them share the great stuff they’re doing, whilst encouraging and supporting them to do even more.

Last count, there are 40 of us in our growing team; strategists, designers, animators, programmers, content creators, PR experts, social media managers, digital marketers, canines – the lot. We’re a close-knit, passionate bunch that love working together and supporting each other; bringing our individual skills and talents together to create brilliant work that works is what we do best.

We’re a growing business and we’re doing it sensibly, responsibly, and sustainably. We want amazing people to join us who want to play an active role in what our growth journey looks and feels like (and have a whole load of fun along the way). We want our team to grow with us so that we all do well, together.

We’re proudly based in the North West and our teams work across our studios in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle and Manchester’s Oxford Road.

Our values are really important to us. We want to work with team members who really care about doing a great job and making a difference to other people’s lives, the places we call home, and of course, our planet. We’re on our journey to B Corp accreditation right now to show just how much we are committed to people, planet, and place. Our work and the way we work can really make a difference. If this isn’t you, probably best turning back now.

We want to use our business for good and make real, positive change, which is why we launched our brilliant Agent Academy in 2014, to help train and connect the next generation of talent into the creative and digital sectors. We’ve helped hundreds of young people get their foot in the door and we’ve got big aspirations to do even more.

Equity, diversity, and inclusion are at the core of everything we do. We’re not perfect but we know that if we keep listening, learning, investing, and trying we’ll only get better and make more of a difference. We want our agency to continue to be a place where everyone is welcomed, celebrated, and rewarded regardless of race, identity, the postcode we live in, our accents or anything else for that matter; a safe workplace where everyone does well.

We’ve got big plans for the future of Agent; they really are exciting. To achieve our dreams, we must have the right people with us to make them happen, who want to grow with us and help create opportunities for us all to do well. If you’re up for it, so are we.

This is an exciting, important, and integral role for us and our growth plans; this is a brand-new position here. As Agent and Agent Academy continue to grow, we want to ensure that we’re looking after the very people at the heart of what we do – our teams. This is a big opportunity to shape the direction of everything people related – from our recruitment and how we welcome new people into our team to our ongoing training and professional development. The floor is all yours…

That’s it from me for now. The all-important job information follows next. We know that a job description never truly tells the full story of what’s involved in a role. So, if you’re interested you can certainly speak (in confidence and with no duty to then apply) to one of the team who you’ll be likely working with. They can give you the full lowdown on the role and the inside track on Agent – easy, eh?

Hope to hear from you soon and if you do apply, all the luck!

Paul
CEO of Agent

We’re looking for a brilliant, proactive, creative Communications / PR Consultant. Does this sound like you?

You’re a newshound and you have a keen eye for strong, captivating copy. You absolutely love it. You’re always up to date with what is going on across the region, the UK and indeed, the world. You source your information from a wide range of news outlets to make sure you get a proper, balanced, informed opinion. Writing and creating copy that tells brand stories is your passion.

You always stay connected. You’re in the know when it comes to the sectors you’re working in and around. You sign up for the relevant new streams and in-person events – you want to stay up to date with what’s going on so that your clients and colleagues are, too. You use this insight to inform your work.

You know how to create copy, stories and spot news angles that work for your clients, their audiences and of course, the journalists you’re working with. You’re more than comfortable pitching these stories in and adapting them based on feedback to make the story work.

You’re fantastic at building great relationships with journalists and media professionals. They trust you to deliver smart copy and brilliant stories that require little to no editing, and to go the additional mile in setting up interviews and photoshoots, so they don’t have to. You go out of your way to get the job done, well.

You’ll bring a little black book of your own media contacts – filled with journalists, influencers and key people who will help bring our campaigns to life and to the attention of our audiences. You’ll also be super keen to grow your network further.

You’ve got a real love for writing; whether it’s for press releases, thought leadership articles, website copy, blog entries or anything else that involves words people will want to read. You know how to use voice and tone correctly and write for impact.

You know how to tailor your writing, so it talks to the varied audiences you’re communicating with. You like the challenge of having to switch up your style.

You know how to think big; you start every communications challenge with ‘what if?’. You aren’t afraid of coming up with the craziest of ideas that you know will get great coverage, and you love presenting concepts to your teammates, clients and press contacts.

You’re happy to work alone or as part of wider multidisciplinary teams; people absolutely love working with you.

You’re a natural self-starter; you just want to get going, you’re really driven to do well and are ambitious to make every bit of work better than the last.

You’re super organised and a great multitasker – reporting, production of agendas, coverage and campaign reports, and updating campaign plans is a daily ritual for you.

You’re a details person – you must get things right! Just OK is not OK for you. You can easily spot a rogue comma or a misplaced apostrophe and a misspelt their / they’re / there drives you mad.

You love editing and proofing just as much as you love pulling the copy together.

You’ve got a truly creative, inventive brain and a real ability to translate a brief into brilliant content for a wide range of our clients.

These are important things to have for this role:

A strong set of personal values – we’re proud to be people-first and our values are extremely important to us. Yours should be to you, too.

Evidence of leading PR / communications projects and creating real impact.

Previous journalism experience would be wonderful (but no stress if not).

Experience of successfully working with journalists and media professionals across regional, trade and national press, building strong, mutually beneficial relationships.

Evidence of creating brilliant copy that really packs a punch. Brilliant writing skills and real style when it comes to the written word. People love to read your stuff.

A proud portfolio of writing, journalism and communications experience that showcases your creative flare, passion for writing, attention to detail and results.

A proactive mindset and a strong ability to use your initiative to make things happen.

A never-ending stream of ideas, ideas, ideas…

People-people skills.

An ability to multitask and prioritise – you’re super organised and never miss a deadline.

A commitment to ongoing development. You love to learn and improve your skills and help others to do the same.

An ability to integrate and understand the importance of aligning with the wider marketing mix – how PR and content needs to align with our strategic approach, delivered across a range of channels.

An innate, deep-down drive to create incredible work. You want to win awards for the content you create and the coverage you secure.

Passion, commitment and dedication to your craft.

A cool, calm and considered working style. You work well under pressure and to tight deadlines. You relish the energy of being busy.

Ambition and the will to do well.

What’s in for you…

The salary for this role is dependent on experience. If the job description excites you – let’s talk.
